State lawmaker suggests forgiving snow days

LANSING, Mich. (WOOD) — Some Lansing legislators are starting to look at how they might help school districts that have already used up or exceeded their yearly allotment of snow days.

"Whenever the governor calls for a state of emergency, I think those days should automatically be waived," state Sen. Jim Ananich said, referring to the declaration from Gov. Gretchen Whitmer amid last week's constant snow and subzero temperatures.

Ananich, D-Flint, told 24 Hour News 8 on Wednesday that the Legislature could and should act to relieve districts that will have to add days to the end of the school year to make up for lost time in the classroom.
