COMSTOCK TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Whether they're out fighting fires or responding to crash scenes, the mission is always present for the Comstock Township Department of Fire & Rescue: “Taking care of those who depend on us.”
In this case, it's one of their own in need: Captain Dale Beauchamp.
"I had a kidney stone, I went to the hospital to get it checked out and they had noticed my legs were quite swollen," Beauchamp explained to 24 Hour News 8 on Monday.
Doctors discovered his liver was failing – so bad that he'd eventually need to start looking for a live donor to survive.
His kids put the word out on social media.
"To be honest, I was sitting in the house scrolling through Facebook (and saw it)," Doug McLiechey said. "It's like, 'Where do I sign up?' I didn't have to think twice about it."
