NWS warns of flooding as ice jam clogs Muskegon River

 

BRIDGETON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for the Muskegon River in Bridgeton due to an ice jam. 

Authorities say an ice jam has formed on the Muskegon River downstream from the Warner Avenue Bridge in Bridgeton.

Flood stage in the area is 13 feet, and the Muskegon River hit 13.6 feet around 7 a.m. Sunday. 

Minor flooding will continue throughout the day and authorities believe the river willl continue to rise, reaching over 14 feet Sunday night. At around that level, nearby cottages and homes in Bridgeton Township will be surrounded with water.
