CASCADE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — The Gerald R. Ford International Airport has set a new all-time passenger record for 2018, marking the sixth consecutive year the airport has seen record-setting growth.
"To have that much growth in 2018 was a tremendous accomplishment," said Brian Picardat, Interim President & CEO of Gerald R. Ford International Airport. "We couldn't have done it without our outstanding staff, our loyal passengers, and all of our airline partners and airport tenants."
The Ford Airport handled a total of 3,263,234 passengers in 2018. That's a sixteen percent increase over their record-setting year in 2017, when they saw 2.8 million passengers.
Picardat said they had originally planned to hit the three million mark in 2020 but with an increase of 17 percent year-over-year that mark came sooner than expected.
The airport also enjoyed it's busiest December ever with 273, 673 passengers. Marking the first time the airport had ever served more than a quarter-million passengers in the month of December.
