Mother accused of hitting son loses custody of twin

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A mother who ran over her own son in front of his elementary school remains free on a $10,000 bond as the 9-year-old remains in serious condition.

But over the holiday week, Tiffany Amber Kosakowski learned officials are calling for her to lose custody of the boy and his twin sister.

It all started Dec. 11 outside Chandler Woods Charter Academy in the 6800 block of Samrick Avenue in Plainfield Township.

According to Kent County family court documents, Kosakowski admitted that her son followed her out of the school after drop-off time.

Kosakowski allegedly told police that she knew her son had followed her out of the school and she was backing up telling him to go back in. Police say the mother knew the boy was walking alongside the SUV as she “admitted to moving the steering wheel from left to right and then accelerating the vehicle.”

Kent County Sheriff’s Office investigators say video and witness accounts show her third-grade son was hanging from the passenger side front-door handle just before he lost his grip and was run overby the rear tire of her SUV.
