KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — While last-minute shoppers hit the streets on Christmas Eve, approximately 200 people in Kalamazoo gathered to give the gift of life.
Donating blood on Christmas Eve has been a Kalamazoo tradition for 34 years. But for one family, the annual drive is about more than just giving blood.
“We both donated today,” said Michael Moore, nodding to his wife. “We’ve got other family members that are here that are in the process of donating.”
For Moore, donating blood takes on added significance, especially this time of year.
“We got the phone call the day before her 35th birthday,” he said.
His daughter, Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety Sgt. Lisa Zuk, had breast cancer.
