Greenville PD ID woman killed in M-57 hit-and-run

GREENVILLE, Mich. (WOOD) — Investigators are releasing the name of the Belding woman killed in a hit-and-run crash on M-57 in Greenville.

The Greenville Department of Public Safety says 48-year-old Rhonda Hatfield was crossing the street around 6:05 p.m. Tuesday when a semi-truck heading west on M-57/Washington Street turned right onto M-91/Lafayette Street, hitting her.

Officer Bruce Aittama told the Greenville Daily News he witnessed the incident as he waited at the intersection in his pickup truck. He said the pedestrian had the walk signal and had just walked past the driver’s line of vision when the semi-truck hit her.

Aittama said the impact knocked the woman onto the ground and she couldn’t get out of the way.

Aittama and his passenger, a firefighter from Delta Township, treated Hatfield until first-responders arrived, the Daily News reports. The Greenville Department of Public Safety says Hatfield was taken to Spectrum United Memorial Hospital Tuesday night where she died from her injuries.
