GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Kent County mistakenly certified the wrong winner for a seat on the Grand Rapids Community College Board of Trustees.
The local elections director is reaching out to the state Bureau of Elections to determine what to do next.
It's a result that has gone back and forth a couple of times. On election night, Kathy Crosby and Sheryl Siegel were announced as the winners of two open trustee seats, beating Carlos Sanchez and Troy Williams.
But Monday, 24 Hour News 8 learned that the initial results counted only votes from Kent County and not from four other counties: Barry, Ionia, Ottawa and Newaygo. Once those numbers were added in, Kent County election officials declared that Sanchez, the incumbent, actually beat Siegel.
