Sexual assault reported near GVSU campus

The Ottawa County Sheriff's Office is investigating after getting a report of a sexual assault near Grand Valley State University's Allendale campus Friday night.

A Grand Valley State University student reported to GVSU police they had been raped in an off-campus apartment at The Alpine Student Living complex at 10452 Lodge Drive, which is across 48th Avenue from campus, sometime between 10 p.m. and 12 a.m.

The victim told police they went to a party with friends at around 10 p.m. At the party, the victim and friends split up, and the victim was given a drink that university officials believe may have been drugged.

Authorities say the victim then lost consciousness, and when they woke up realized they had been sexually assaulted.

A description of the suspect was not available Saturday morning. Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff's office at 616.738.4022 or Silent Observer at 877.887.4536.
