Families struggling to find housing after funding runs out

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Organizations helping the homeless in Grand Rapids are scrambling to find homes for even more people after dozens of families were forced to check out of the hotels they called home last week.

The Salvation Army had been putting families up in hotel rooms, but the organization blew through its entire yearly budget for the program less than three weeks after it became available.

Now, the Salvation Army is working with other area organizations to make sure the other 40 or so families staying in a hotel have a place to go. The Coalition to End Homelessness has formed an emergency task force to address the exploding number of homeless families in Grand Rapids.
