DETROIT (WOOD) — Western Michigan University football is hoping to return to the top of the Mid-American Conference with the return of a healthy starting quarterback.
On Tuesday, the Broncos were picked to finish third in the MAC West Division in the preseason media poll behind Northern Illinois and Toledo.
Last season, the Broncos got off to a 4-2 start before stumbling to a 2-4 finish after 22 players suffered season-ending injuries. Perhaps the most important of those injuries was to starting quarterback Jon Wassink, who knows it’s his time to step up.
“You have to have good balance (on offense),” Wassink said. “Even if you have a really good running game, you also have to make plays in the passing game. That’s something that (head coach Tim Lester) has been very good for my development.”
