Friend remembers couple killed in Allegan Co. crash

HEATH TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — An Allegan County crash that killed a newlywed couple Tuesday happened less than three miles away from the site they were married a few weeks prior.

The Allegan County Sheriff’s Department said a westbound vehicle ran the stop sign at 128th Ave and M-40, killing 24-year-old Logan Allbaugh and 22-year-old Hannah Kwekel.

The couple’s wedding was on June 23.

Lloyd Haskin was a groomsman in the wedding that took place in his family’s decorated yard.

“It was funny. They'd wink at each other (during the wedding). They were the most flirty wedding I’ve ever seen,” Haskin told 24 Hour News 8.

Haskin said he has known Allbaugh for about 14 years. He was one of the first people to learn of Allbaugh’s plans to propose to Kwekel.

“Logan was closer than family,” Haskin said.

The togetherness of the couple didn’t go unnoticed.

“I do remember that final moment when they looked at each other and they were together,” he said.

Even at work, Kwekel’s boss at the Iron Bridge Sports Bar in Allegan said their relationship was admirable.

“They just had a great aura about them they were really, really good kids,” said Melissa Green, co-owner of the bar.

Haskin said that his best friend protected him from the time they met in high school band.
