Portage DPS: Suspects leave gun in stranger's car

PORTAGE, Mich. (WOOD) — Two people were arrested Sunday after allegedly taking off from a traffic stop in Portage and then ditching a stolen gun in a stranger's car.

The Portage Department of Public Safety says that around 2 p.m., its officers tried to pull over a driver for reckless driving in the area of Portage Road near Zylman Avenue. The driver didn't stop, however, and took off.

Officers did not give chase.

Soon thereafter, a Portage resident called police to say that someone had left their car in her backyard in the area of Portage Road and Lancelot Court. Officers arrived and found it to be the same car that had fled the traffic stop less than two miles away.
