100th St, bridge hit causes traffic backup

BYRON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — The battered 100th Street bridge in southern Kent County has been hit for at least the eighth time this year, reports indicate.

A witness reported that a large metal container hit the bridge deck and said there's debris in the southbound lanes of US-131.

The 100th Street bridge deck has been struck several times this year by trucks hauling loads that are too tall. The bridge is lower than most, but it's clearly labeled.

The first strikes in January damaged the bridge.  Construction is underway to fix it and should wrap up around Memorial Day.
