Bill would mandate active shooter training for police

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Students across the country walked out of class Friday to demand lawmakers to do more to stop gun violence.

Similar walkouts and protests have been common recently after several school shootings across the country. Many ask legislators to come up with a solution to ensure the safety of students and prevent another tragedy from happening.

One state senator has proposed a bill that would mandate active shooter training for police as part of their already existing firearms training.

"I thought long and hard about school safety and what we have to do to keep our kids safe, keep our schools secure, and in good condition,” said Sen. Dale Zorn, R-Ida. “From the last episode in Florida, there was something to learn with that about law enforcement having the right training.”
