KCSO confirms Wayland man found dead in Gaines Twp.'s Prairie Wolf Park

GAINES CHARTER TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- The Kent County Sheriff's Office says an 81-year-old man died in Gaines Township on Monday, despite efforts to revive him.

It happened around 1:20 p.m.in Prairie Wolf Park, which is adjacent to the township hall on Kalamazoo Avenue, just south of 84th Street.

KCSO Sgt. Scott Dietrich tells WOOD Radio that foul play is not suspected. But police are waiting for autopsy results to come back regarding cause of death.

Township Manager Rod Weersing announced at Monday night's Gaines Township Board of Trustees meeting that some passersby noticed the man lying on the lawn. At first, they thought he was sleeping but later tried to resuscitate him.

Weersing said they performed CPR until an off-duty paramedic took over. The KCSO and the township fire department arrived moments later.

The sheriff's office said the Wayland man died at the scene.

His name had not been released at the time of publication.
