GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- Scouting America's Michigan Crossroads Council is holding their annual September 11 Community Day of Remembrance and Scout Salute. The event will commemorate the 24th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001.
The Day of Remembrance and Scout Salute will be held at the plaza at the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum from sunrise to sunset.
Each year additional events are added to the commemorative event with events taking place Albion, Bay City, Farmington, Muskegon, Riverview and Traverse City as well.
This year's Honorary Chair is Thomas M. Hughes Jr. He is a Michigan State Fire Marshal and Director of the Bureau of Fire Services.
In Grand Rapids, the Grand Rapids Police and Fire Departments will raise and lower the flags to open and close the day's events. Flags will be raised at 7:19 a.m. and lowered at 7:59 p.m.
At 5:30 p.m. the Salvation Army Band will perform. At 6 p.m. Grand Rapid Fire Chief Brad Brown and Grand Rapids Police Chief Eric Winstrom will speak.
