Grand Haven Public Safety: Suspect now in police custody

Grand Haven Public Safety says a suspect is in custody after an incident on Monday.

Police responded to reports of an assault involving a firearm in the 800 block of Franklin Avenue around 10:30 a.m. Officials advised the public to stay away from the area and around noon, police went door to door asking residents to not leave their homes or walk through a two-block area where officers were staged.

Public Safety says they made several attempts to contact the individual in the home. Director of Public Safety Nichole Hudson says after an extensive negotiation period, the suspect was taken into custody using less than lethal force.

Officials say there was no threat to the community or local schools.

The suspect is facing charges of felonious assault and will be held at the Ottawa County Jail.

The suspect's identity will not be released until they are arraigned.
