Harsh winter weather impacting blood supply in W. MI

Versiti Blood Center of Michigan says the recent stretch of harsh winter weather is leaving the region's blood supply at a dangerously low level.

The center says their stock normally can cover three-days worth of supply however they have dropped to a single-day amount.

Dr. Dan Waxman says 20 to 30% of their drives are at schools and if schools shut down, they are not apply to collect donors.

The center says they are currently accepting all blood types to increase their supply.
