A West Michigan mother almost fell victim to a scam over the weekend and is now warning others.
Mary Schat received a call from an unknown Holland number on Sunday morning.
Schat says she picked up the call because her daughter goes to Hope College and she thought the call may be about her.
Schat says she heard her daughters voice asking for help and then a man's voice took over the call and demanded $50,000 in exchange for her daughter.
Schat's husband called dispatch while she was still on the phone and dispatch recommended they hang up and call their daughter.
Their daughter was safe at her apartment.
The Better Business Bureau says this scam is called voice cloning.
