The Kent County Clerk's Office says an error on ballots for one Plainfield Township precinct was identified on Wednesday afternoon and new ballots are already being printed.
The error impacted three-percent of Plainfield Township registered voters.
The ballots were correct when they went through the proofing process. However, ballots were printed with incorrect color-coded ballot number stubs for Precincts 9A and 9B. The error led to the wrong ballots being sent to voters in Precinct 9A.
All incorrect ballots have been spoiled so votes will not be cast twice. Residents who received an incorrect ballot should destroy it or take it to the Plainfield Township Clerk's Office to be destroyed.
“All affected voters will receive the right ballot immediately so they can cast their vote well ahead of Election Day,” said Kent County Clerk/Register of Deeds Lisa Posthumus Lyons. “I want to be very clear to all voters that this situation will not allow anyone to vote twice. Spoiling incorrect ballots is a critical safeguard to protect the integrity of our election process.”
Correct ballots will have a green color-coded ballot number stub and will have a new issue date.
The new ballots will be sent out on Friday, October 4.
