Governor Whitmer says today is a somber day, as it marks the one-year point since the first case of COVID-19 was discovered in the state.
Whitmer said during a press conference that the last year was horrific but also filled with heroism by those who helped in the fight against COVID-19.
Almost 600-thousand Michiganders have tested positive for COVID-19 and around 15,700 have died after contracting the virus.
Whitmer is asking Michiganders to turn on their front porch light from 8 p.m. until 9 p.m. tonight to remember those who have died.
