NAACP tells community to honor Honestie Hodges by taking virus seriously

The Greater Grand Rapids Chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People addressed the community after the death of 14-year-old Honestie Hodges on Sunday.

She died from complications of COVID-19 and was the first child to die in Kent County.

Honestie was held at gunpoint at age 11 by Grand Rapids Police Officers.

She was then handcuffed.

The interaction changed the department's policy on interactions with children.

Chapter President Cle Jackson says people should take the virus seriously.
