Local Militia Says They're Often Misunderstood, Want To Protect Rights

BARRY COUNTY (WOOD-AM) - A Barry County-based armed militia says they want to keep the peace and protect the right to protest. They also say their motives are frequently misunderstood.

Michigan Liberty Militia members began making national headlines in the spring, as they were among the protesters that rallied against the governor's coronavirus executive orders. Recently, they've been acting as security at the request of protest organizers.

"It's to keep the peace," co-founder Phil Robinson told WOOD-TV. "It's to keep everyone safe."
