NASA is investigating the first allegation of a crime committed in space. US Army lieutenant colonel Anne McClain has been accused of stealing her estranged wife's identity and accessing her bank account from NASA computers during a six-month mission on the International Space Station.
McClain is in the middle of a bitter custody dispute with Summer Worden over Worden's young son from a previous relationship.
McClain admitted to accessing Worden's bank accounts while she was in space. She told NASA investigators that she wanted to track Worden's spending to make sure she had enough money to take care of her son. McClain did not tamper with the funds when she accessed the account and used the same password she had when they were married.
NASA has not commented on the allegations, and McClain's lawyer stated that "she strenuously denies that she did anything improper."
