Reports: U-M hires Juwan Howard as basketball coach

(WOOD) — The University of Michigan is hiring former Wolverine Juwan Howard as its new head basketball coach, multiple news outlets are reporting.

The Detroit Free Press reports Michigan athletic director Warde Manuel offered Howard, whom he had met with Tuesday, the job on Wednesday.

Citing a source, the Free Press says Howard will get a five-year contract, though it's not yet known what his salary will be.

Howard is a member of the "Fab Five" recruiting class from the early 1990s and was an All-American. He then spent 19 years in the NBA. Recently, he has been an assistant coach with the Miami Heat.
