GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Consumers Energy made steady progress Sunday in restoring power to customers affected by last week's winter weather, with the last homes and businesses expected to go back online by midday Monday.
Over the course of the last week, some 231,000 Consumers customers statewide have been affected.
As of around 12 noon. Monday, the number of outages was down to around 1,000, according to Consumers' interactive outages ma p .
The outages were caused by back-to-back ice storms and then a blast of strong winds. Consumers called infrom multiple states to help get everyone back on the grid.
The situation was so bad that Gov. Gretchen Whitmer
"As the emergency started to phase down and power started coming back on, we started to see the scope of the damage of that was done throughout the city," Mayor Rosalynn Bliss said Sunday.
