West Ottawa hosts Special Olympics basketball tournament

HOLLAND, Mich. (via WOOD TV 8) — West Ottawa hosted it's second Special Olympics basketball tournament Saturday in Holland.  

13 teams from across West Michigan, including the host Panthers, participated in the event.  

The event was part of a class project by senior Derek McNitt who is a part of the school's L.I.N.K.S. program.  The program pairs students in the program with classmates who have special needs.  

"I didn't plan it last year but I came around and it was so much energy and so much fun," said McNitt.  "I just wanted to be able to plan that and be a part of it."
