Rockford man critically injured in UP crash

MUNISING TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Investigators say a Rockford man was critically injured in a weekend snowmobile crash in the Upper Peninsula.

The crash happened around 11:10 p.m. Sunday on Trail 8 near Melstrand, east of Munising and Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore.

The Alger County Sheriff’s Office says Todd Cantile, 55, was traveling west when his snowmobile veered off the trail and hit a tree.

First responders pulled him from the wreckage and he was flown to a Marquette hospital, where he was listed in critical condition Tuesday.

Investigators believe speed and alcohol played roles in the crash, which is under investigation.
