Former Grandville Mayor James R. Buck dies

GRANDVILLE, Mich. (WOOD) — Grandville’s longest-serving mayor has passed away.

In a Facebook post Tuesday, the city announced former Mayor James R. Buck had died.

“With much sadness, but with gratitude for his many decades of honorable service to the City of Grandville, we share the news of the passing of former Mayor James R. Buck, Grandville's longest serving Mayor from 1984-2013. Sincere condolences go out to the Buck family and friends,” the post stated.

Under Buck’s leadership, Grandville experienced significant growth, including the creation of RiverTown Crossings mall. He served on various boards and foundations in the 1990s and 2000s, and received the Grandville-Jenison Chamber’s first Lifetime Achievement Award in 2012.

Buck retired from his post as mayor in 2013.  

Funeral arrangements are pending.
