Crews work to cap Holland gas leak; roads closed

HOLLAND, Mich. (WOOD) — A gas leak has forced authorities to close roads surrounding three city blocks in Holland.

In  an alert sent out at 2:20 p.m. Tuesday, Ottawa County Central Dispatch  said southbound Pine Avenue between 7th and 10th streets and 9th Street  between Maple and S. River avenues will be closed for several hours as  crews work to stop the leak.

The Holland Sentinel reports gas and sand can be seen coming out of the cut plastic line. The  publication says a crew is trying to dig around the broken line to clamp  it, but the concern is about gas built up in the soil.

The Holland Sentinel reports all three fire stations have been called to the scene and are working to find the gas shutoff valve.

People are asked to avoid the area.
