Woman killed in fiery US-31 crash identified

FRUITLAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — One person was killed in a fiery car crash near Lakewood Club Sunday afternoon.

Michigan State Police identified her Monday as 29-year-old Renee Beer of Traverse City.

The single-car crash happened around 2:15 p.m. on northbound US-31 near White Lake Drive.

MSP says the car was on fire when emergency responders arrived. Witnesses told them the driver was still inside. Teams from the Dalton and White Lake fire departments put out the flames.

They then found Beer's body. She was the only person in the car.

Speed was believed to have been a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
