Docs: Saw used in dismemberment found in parents' home

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Court documents indicate the parents of a man charged with murdering a woman and then mutilating her body had a greater role in covering up the crime than simply lying for their son.

Ashley Young, 31, of Oshtemo Township, was last seen with Jared Chance around 1:30 a.m. Nov. 29 at Miss Tracy’s Liquor Store on Franklin Street near Neland Avenue SE in Grand Rapids, according to court documents obtained Thursday. That's about a block from Chance's apartment.

On Dec. 2, the couple living downstairs from Chance noticed an unusual smell coming from the basement of the house on Franklin near Dolbee Avenue SE. When one of them went to check it out, he found a tarp leaking blood.

"It was a tarp at the end of the basement stairs," the neighbor Mario Nelson described to 24 Hour News 8. "I just saw a little blood. It just hit me. I ran back upstairs."

He called police.
