Rain closes W. MI rinks, ski slopes on New Year's Eve

CANNON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Before the ball could fall, rain fell on West Michigan, forcing ice rinks and ski slopes to close on New Year's Eve.

Cannonsburg Ski Area announced Monday it would remain closed because of the rain.

“Sorry everyone, hopefully the new year brings much better weather,” the venue stated on Facebook.

Cannonsburg has battled wet, mild weather since it officially opened for the season on Dec. 16.  The venue made snow so it could open Saturday and Sunday, after closing Friday because of the conditions.

Bittersweet Ski Resort in Otsego also shut down Monday because of the weather, with plans to open at 9 a.m. on New Year's Day.
