Mom accused of running over son waives hearing

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — The Belmont mother accused of running over her 9-year-old son after he refused to go to school will see her case move to felony court.

Kent County Sheriff's Department investigators say 36-year-old Tiffany Amber Kosakowski admitted she knew her son was alongside her car as she was driving the morning of Dec. 11 outside Chandler Woods Charter Academy.

Detectives say she moved her steering wheel back and forth as the boy clung to a door handle and then the SUV ran him over causing skull fractures, bleeding on the brain and multiple broken bones.

Child Protective Services is in the process of removing her parental rights for the boy and his twin sister.

In Kent County District Court Friday, Kosakowski waived her probable cause hearing sending the case to circuit court for negotiations with the Kent County Prosecutor on charges of reckless driving and child abuse that carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison.
