KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety is warning workers about scammers posing as regional managers to bilk businesses out of holiday gift card money.
Kalamazoo detectives say some area businesses have already fallen victim to the scheme. The thief either emails or calls a business posing as a manager and tells the employee to use company funds to purchase gift cards. The scammer says the gift cards will be given to employees as gifts, but asks the victim to send them the gift card information. The scammer then uses that information to empty all of the gift cards, at a loss to the business.
