Authorities: Mom driving vehicle that hit boy near school

PLAINFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A boy is in critical condition after being struck by a vehicle his mother was driving Tuesday outside a school in Kent County.

It happened shortly before 8:30 a.m. near  the Chandler Woods Charter Academy, located at 6895 Samrick Ave. NE  north of Post Drive NE in Plainfield Township.

Sgt. Joel Roon said an 8-year-old boy in third grade at the school was hit by the vehicle in the school parking lot.

Authorities  say surveillance footage shows the boy hanging from the passenger side  front door handle prior to losing his grip and being run over by the  passenger side rear tire.

It's unclear why the boy was hanging from the door handle.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact Silent Observer at 616.774.2345.
