Wyoming woman saves dog; drowns in Kent Co. pond

WYOMING, Mich. (WOOD) — A woman drowned late Saturday evening after falling through the ice at a Kent County pond after saving her dog according to the Wyoming Department of Public Safety.

Authorities say 38-year-old Tracy Cashman fell through the ice Saturday night at the pond in Battjes Park near the intersection of Chicago Drive SW and Blandford Avenue SW in Wyoming.

Wyoming Public Safety officers told 24 Hour News 8 Cashman was walking her dog at the park when it fell through the ice. While rescuing the dog Cashman herself fell through the ice and died.

Authorities say the dog returned home without Cashman around 9 p.m. prompting her family to search the park where they frequently walked.\
