Deputies: Woman killed in Ionia County head-on crash

PORTLAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A woman was killed in a head-on crash in Ionia County Tuesday morning.

The  Ionia County Sheriff's Office says the crash happened at 6:04 a.m.  at  S. Keefer and David highways in Orange Township, southeast of Ionia.

Deputies  say the 20-year-old woman was heading north on Keefer Highway when she  disregarded a stop sign, traveling into the path of a pickup truck  traveling west on David Highway.

The Dodge Ram 2500 pickup truck  collided with the passenger side of the Honda Civic. The woman died at  the scene, according to authorities.

The pickup truck driver, a 28-year-old man from St. Johns, was taken to Sparrow Ionia Hospital with injuries.

The  intersection was closed for about five hours as authorities  investigated and worked to clear the scene, but it has since reopened.

The  sheriff's office says the woman killed in the crash is from New York,  but they are not releasing her name at this time because they are in the  process of notifying her family.

Investigators say everyone was wearing a seat belt and drugs and alcohol are not believed to be factors in the crash.
