Jury convicts teen's suspected killer of rape

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — The suspected killer of a Grand Rapids girl is guilty of sexually assaulting the teen before her murder.

A jury Thursday convicted Quinn James on four counts of criminal sexual conduct in the rape of then-15-year-old Mujey Dumbuya, who had agreed to testify in the case before she was murdered.

James is expected back in court for senctencing on Dec. 10.

He will face a separate trial for Mujey’s murder. Her body was discovered Jan. 28 in a wooded area of Kalamazoo, four days after she disappeared in Grand Rapids while on her way to the bus that takes her to school.
