Family ID's 1 killed in Grand Rapids adult foster care home fire

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Police and fire authorities are investigating a deadly fire at a Grand Rapids adult foster care home.

The Grand Rapids Police Department has confirmed that two people have died as a result of the fire.

The fire was reported early Saturday morning at 1018 Widdicomb St. NW.

Both people killed were on the second floor of the home. A 62-year-old man died at the scene and an 19-year-old identified by family as Michael Kolenbrander was taken to the hospital, where he died from his injuries.

A source tells 24 Hour News 8 that a third victim was taken by ambulance to the hospital and was said to be in fair condition.

The Grand Rapids Fire Department has not released the names of the victims. Around 12 people inside the home made it out safely on their own or were rescued by fire crews.
