Couple's deaths, standoff rattle neighbors

SPENCER TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — The couple found dead in their northeastern Kent County home Saturday were helpful and well-liked by many in the farming community, their neighbors said Sunday.

Using property records, 24 Hour News 8 identified the pair as James Cole and Lisa Bradley. They had been a couple more than a decade, a family member said.

Their neighbors said the country roads and open fields surrounding the couple's home on Rooksby Street near Wickert Avenue east of Sand Lake are usually a homestead for peace. Many of them were tearful Sunday as they tried to comprehend the homicides.

Shortly after Cole and Bradley's bodies were found around noon Saturday, a suspect holed up at Ramblewood Apartments in Wyoming, holding his wife and two young children hostage.
