FRUITPORT TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A Muskegon County woman could face charges after a group of horses seized from her were found sick and malnourished.
Some of the horses were hundreds of pounds below normal weights with other health issues. But now, what started as an animal neglect case last month has transformed into a story of recovery.
Authorities removed seven horses from the woman’s property on Aug. 19 after receiving a tip that they weren’t being taken care of well.
"They were in much worse condition than I initially had thought," said Captain Shane Brown of the Muskegon County Sheriff’s Department, who didn’t see the horses until they were seized.
