GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — The American Red Cross is sending dozens of Michigan volunteers to the East Coast to help communities hit by Hurricane Florence.
The Red Cross says it’s already sent 30 volunteers from the state to North Carolina and South Carolina. Two volunteers from West Michigan left Tuesday afternoon for South Carolina. That's in addition to Red Cross teams in Hawaii and Guam.
Tiffany Page with the Red Cross says volunteers will set up three centers in the Carolinas, where they will provide shelter, food and basic needs for evacuees. Page says the Red Cross will also have a distribution center and evacuation centers that can be transitioned into emergency shelters as well.
