No homicides in Grand Rapids this summer

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Labor Day marked the unofficial end of a summer that was very peaceful in Grand Rapids.

As of Tuesday, it had been 147 days since the last homicide in the city. That made this summer the first one in recent history without a single killing.

According to data provided by the Grand Rapids Police Department, each of the last three summers saw three homicides between June and August. In 2014, there were two. In 2013, there were seven.
