Pregnant mom, baby die after rollover in GR

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A pregnant mother was killed in a two-vehicle rollover crash in Grand Rapids Saturday.

Family members identified her Sunday as 28-year-old Nancy Orozco.

They said her child, a boy, was delivered via cesarean section but died Sunday afternoon. Orozco's sister, Ana Orozco, said doctors had told the family it was unlikely he would survive.

"We strongly believe he went away to be with (his) mom," Ana Orozco wrote in a message to 24 Hour News 8 Sunday night.

The crash happened at 10:51 a.m. Saturday at the intersection of 3rd Street NW and Lane Avenue NW.

Police say a vehicle going east on 3rd Street ran a stop sign and hit another vehicle going south on Lane Avenue. Orozco, the driver of the southbound vehicle, was ejected and her vehicle then rolled on top of her.

Emergency responders extricated her and took her to an area hospital, where she died.
