6 motel fire victims mourned at service

BENTON HARBOR, Mich. (WOOD) — A memorial service was held Saturday for the mother and five children killed in a motel fire in southwestern Michigan two weeks ago.

“Lord, why this?” wondered Pastor Bruce McCoy, according to South Bend, Indiana, NBC affiliate WNDU. “I've got to confess to you today, I didn't get any answers right away."

Twenty-six-year-old Kiarre Curtis, 10-year-old Marquise Thompson, 7-year-old Gerome Randolph, 5-year-old Samuel Curtis, 4-year-old Savod Curtis and 2-year-old Avery Curtis died when a fire broke out in the early hours of July 28 at Cosmo Extended Stay near St. Joseph.
