GRPD: Secret Service dog bit woman during Pence's visit

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A U.S. Secret Service dog bit a woman outside the Amway Grand Hotel during Vice President Mike Pence’s visit to Grand Rapids Wednesday, Grand Rapids Police told 24 Hour News 8.

GRPD said its officers rendered aid to the woman, who was bit on the leg, but is expected to be OK. A sergeant with GRPD did not know the woman’s condition but said the injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.

It’s also unclear exactly what time it happened but GRPD said it was somewhere outside the hotel near Pearl St. NW and Monroe Ave. NW. American Medical Response said its EMTs transported a dog bite victim from that area to a nearby hospital around 6 p.m. Wednesday.

The circumstances surrounding the dog bite are unclear.
