Man dies after crashing boat on Big Fish Lake

MARCELLUS TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Investigators now believe alcohol may have played a role in a deadly boating crash on a Cass County lake.

Around 9 a.m. Saturday, deputies were called to Big Fish Lake in Marcellus Township, located about 15 miles south of Paw Paw.

Investigators say 55-year-old Michael Mondovich of Granger, Indiana lost control of his boat, hitting a pier and two other boats.

Witnesses and rescuers worked to resuscitate Mondovich. An ambulance eventually took him to Borgess Lee Memorial Hospital where he died from his injuries, the sheriff’s office said Tuesday.

Authorities initially believed Mondovich suffered a severe medical condition and lost consciousness before the crash. However, further investigation revealed the possibility that alcohol may have factored into the deadly incident.

The sheriff’s office has ordered an autopsy on Mondovich to determine what exactly led to his death.
