To The Point: Republican U.S. Senate candidates

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Two Republicans are vying to win the August primary for a chance to take on U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow for her seat in the Senate.

Businessman Sandy Pensler said he would like to take a different path in representing the state.

"I think it's a change in approach from how Michigan's been represented in the past,” Pensler said. “Miss Stabenow really is a career politician who I believe loves Washington more than she loves Michigan and has always put partisan interest, and moving up in the party first.

“You see the little cute ads with Michigan first and kids running around, there's really more to that message. I will put the interest of Michiganders first in every decision I make.”

Former combat pilot John James also wants to represent Michigan in Washington, D.C.
